July Meeting on the Patio!

Due to unforseen circumstances, we had quilt group meeting on the patio! Fun for a change!

Kathy's charm quilt

Linda shared a verse: John 10:10 (which we usually only quote the last half) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have live and have it abundantly." Good reminder to be aware of what the thief is up to!

June group was small but fun! Linda shared Psalm 136:26 - "Give thanks to the God of Heaven. His love endures forever."

Shop Hop review

Val worked 2 days and had fun seeing all the different ladies from all over. Victoria and Diana drove around for 2 days, visiting about 25 shops. They had fun, but weren't super excited about the fabric for this year.

March Meeting

We had a fun time at quilt group!

Debbie & Diane

Linda shared a verse with us.

Psalm 57:7-11

New International Version (NIV)
My heart, O God, is steadfast,
    my heart is steadfast;
    I will sing and make music.
Awake, my soul!
    Awake, harp and lyre!
    I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
    let your glory be over all the earth.

Comfort Quilts

- There is a clothing drop bin outside our Quilt Room door for Hearts and Home - a Christian thrift store in Bellevue.

- Baby quilt status - We've got a dedication coming up soon. Debbie has several quilts, and we added more to the stash tonight!

Missionary Quilts

We discussed the status of the Ziska's quilt. Also whether they all need to be made "together" or if individuals could make a quilt and we pray for it and send it on it's way. The only disadvantage to an individual making it is that we don't have the prayer time with it (I like to pray as I make blocks for the quilt). If we knew someone was working on one, we could "draw" the next missionary name and be praying while it's being made elsewhere!

Friendship Quilting Day will be 4/12 - and we'll work on their quilt that day. I've got a bunch of blocks cut out... just need assembled.

We also discussed keeping on making the Sugar Cubes blocks (like we're making for the Ziskas), but also, making nine patches out of 2.5" pieces as you have time or have squares. We'll have a nine-patch quilt in no time if we all make one a day! The block is made of 2.5" pieces... ending up measuring 6.5" - which comes out to 6" when finished. Have fun!

Quilts for Oso

Layers of Hope Quilting 911 is coordinating quilts to take to Oso victim families and to Responders. They need the first batch by April 19th. One of the drop points is in Burien at a knitting store (they take knitting and crocheting too), which I'm willing to deliver to. Just get me anything you may have very soon! We decided to send the blue and yellow string quilt? I'm going to send my Hawaiian. Kathy offered her pea pod kids' quilt. Their info is at: Layersofhopequilting911.blogspot.com  I imagine with the good response they've had so far, that they'll need to make a second delivery.

We had two sets of Show and Tell: UFO's and regular Show and Tell.

Next month's UFO is # 1!

February Group Meeting was Fun!

We had a good tim Monday night! Linda shared with us

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you
with all joy and peace as you trust in Him,
so that you may overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We brought in our blocks for the Ziska quilt. We have 20 blocks so far. We decided that 6x8 was too small, so for the sake of the pattern we're going to make it 8x10 - bring your blocks to the March group meeting! Here's the general idea:

Friendship Quilting Day was voted on for March, and officially moved to March 15th (instead of March 8th), which is totally appropriate, as March 15th is National Quilting Day!!

Val showed us how to do a quick pair of 9-patches! Don't know if I can type it up here... but it was quick and easy! Made 2 blocks... one with the darks on the outside, and one with them on the inside.

2014 UFO Challenge!

Several of us are going to choose 10 unfinished quilts that we'd like to get done this year. We've chosen and numbered them 1-10, and every month we'll draw a number and work on that numbered UFO! "Finished" means whatever you'd like it to mean. It can mean completely done and labeled, or work on one Block of the Month per month that you're behind on... or really anything goes! Not really just a bunch of rules... just trying to motivate each other and cheer each other on! Our number to work on this month:
2!
You can do it!

Here are the pics of our Show and Tell... or you can click on the pics and see them bigger in Flickr.

Quilt Group info from January 2014 Group

Hey! Quilting was fun last Monday! A few things we discussed and show and tell here!

Friendship Quilting Day Changing to Baby Quilting Day

We've changed the date of February's Friendship Quilting Day to February 15th, and the purpose for the day as well! We are completely out of baby quilts now, so we thought it'd be smart to have a Baby Quilting Day, in lieu of our original plan. Let's do some getting ahead of the game again. Please come February 15th (9-4 or whatever time you can) - even if you don't have time to sew, maybe someone could use help with pressing!

I offered an idea of a quilt I made - here's a link to the pattern for Oh Fransson's Baby Charm quilt. (Please print your own copy - apparently that's the owners' rule.) It uses primarily charm squares and a background fabric, which I've seen as white, dark brown, and I made one with blue plaid as the background. The picture is one I made - I didn't have charm squares... just cut some fabric squares.

You don't have to use this pattern that day (or if you have other pressing projects, you're certainly welcome to work on them that day too). We have another pattern called Snuggle Up that we use often for baby quilts and makes a cute one. Here's the pattern link to Snuggle Up.

Beginning on Missionary Quilts - First one for the Zyskas

Here is a link to the Sugar Cubes Block pattern. We're going to make this block for Joe and Brenda Zyska's quilt. The directions are in the link above. Any color goes. The really main important thing is that the lights go diagonally through your block! That what makes the pattern work. Please bring what you have done to our February group meeting and we asses what we have so far. Then we will bring them in April, and assemble them in May.

It'll look something like this when done:

We're also going to start working on a nine-patch-a-day style quilt for the next missionary quilt coming up. You can start making them now if you want (from 2 1/2" strips). But at next group meeting Val is going to show us a quick way to make 2 at a time!

UFO List

And one last thing. Diana and I decided we liked the motivation of having a UFO (UnFinished Object) list to help us get things done. We're going to make a list of 10 unfinished quilts (not all of them, so our list isn't so overwhelming), and draw a number each month to pick the one we're going to work on. If you'd like to play along, bring a list to the February meeting and we'll get started!

Show and Tell

Whew! That's a lot! And here's a link to the Show and Tell for the month:
